God's Law of Revival
"Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle." Exodus 40:34
Much of the Christian world rushes to anything that calls itself a revival today without even opening their Bible to see if it has the slightest resemblance of God's word. These modern revivals reek of flesh and have nothing to do with the living God, nor is God anywhere near their foolishness. God's word says of these men, "...they received not the love of the truth ... for this cause God shall send them strong delusion..." (II Thessalonians 2:10-11) Simply put, their love is not towards the truth of God, rather towards their own pleasure. They love the frivolity and entertainment that the modern day revival provides.
The true child of God searches the word of God to know the truth of the matter. Scripture tells us that, "...he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error." (I John 4:6) There is only one way to know God and the truth of the matter, through the Word of God.
Revival begins and ends with the commands of God and our obedience to them. Moses followed God's commands to the letter and saw one of the greatest revivals of all time. God Himself came down and filled the tabernacle and even the most holy men were not able to enter into His presence. Lets look at Exodus 40:23-35.
"23 …he set the bread in order upon it before the LORD; as the LORD had commanded Moses.
24 And he put the candlestick in the tent of the congregation, over against the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward.
25 And he lighted the lamps before the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.
26 And he put the golden altar in the tent of the congregation before the vail:
27 And he burnt sweet incense thereon; as the LORD commanded Moses.
28 And he set up the hanging at the door of the tabernacle.
29 And he put the altar of burnt offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the meat offering; as the LORD commanded Moses.
30 And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash withal.
31 And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet thereat:
32 When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as the LORD commanded Moses.
33 And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work.
34 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle."
Five times we read these words, "as the LORD commanded". The key to God's glory filling the temple rested upon the obedience of Moses in all that God commanded him. Today's Church wants a crown without the cross, and revival without obedience. But God will never come down among the frivolity of men, He is a Holy God, He is a great King.
The Law of Revival is…
Thus did Moses... according to all that the LORD commanded him. Then... the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
Personal Revival "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost…" I Corinthians 6:19
If you want to see revival in your own life you must recognize that your body is the Temple, it must be holy for a Holy God to dwell there. You must obey the commands of God, "set the bread in order" (the word of God), "he lighted the lamps" (the Holy Spirit), "he burnt sweet incense" (prayer), "he put the altar of burnt offering" (death to self), and "he set the laver" (resurrection into a new clean life). A life surrendered to the Word of God.
Revival in the Church "So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house." Ezekiel 43:5
Ezekiel 43:7, 10-12 "7 And he said unto me, Son of man, the place of my throne, and the place of the soles of my feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and my holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile...
10 Thou son of man, shew the house to the house of Israel, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities: and let them measure the pattern.
11 And if they be ashamed of all that they have done, shew them the form of the house, and the fashion thereof, and the goings out thereof, and the comings in thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and all the forms thereof, and all the laws thereof: and write it in their sight, that they may keep the whole form thereof, and all the ordinances thereof, and do them.
12 This is the law of the house; Upon the top of the mountain the whole limit thereof round about shall be most holy. Behold, this is the law of the house."
First God said, "…let them measure the pattern." There is only one pattern. "Jesus Christ… a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting." (I Timothy 1:16) It is only as we pattern ourselves after Christ that God will bring us revival. "…and I will accept you, saith the Lord GOD." (Ezekiel 43:27) Christ is the Word of God. (John 1:14)
The Overflow of Revival
True revival is not meant soley for the Church, rather pushes open wide the doors that men may be drawn to Christ. "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me." (John 12:32) When the Holy Spirit comes in revival, He will magnify Christ and sanctify the believer. When men are sanctified unto the Lord, the world will see it and be drawn. When God comes, men are changed forever, both inside and outside of the Church.
"...I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes." Ezekiel 36:23
When the Church stops her triffling with God and begins to walk in fear and reverence through her obedience to the Word of God, we will see a true revival where men will fall on their face in the presence of a Holy God; it will be nothing like what men call revival today.
