Excerpts and Quotes
"One of the great keywords of the Old Testament is "sanctify". "Sanctify" means to separate, make holy, consecrate, set apart; and that mainly is a spiritual and inward thing, dividing between heaven and earth. God has divided those two things, and there is to be this putting them apart in a spiritual way inwardly. The men of the Old Testament were set apart in this sense: something was done at the very center of their being which separated them from this world, committing them to a course which was altogether different from the course of this world. If under strain or deception, inadvertently, consciously or unconsciously they touched this earth, they were at once in confusion. They knew at once in their inner being that they were out of God's way, and the only thing was somehow to get back. Heaven witnessed against their position; they were in trouble. Not until they got back could they go on."
"Heaven has its own basis, standards and provision. Earth can neither find nor provide that. It is different. You can only come or move on heaven's provision, and that will entirely and utterly upset all your own natural calculations. If you like Cain (Gen. 4:3), reason things out according to religious reason and try to come on that ground, you do not get anywhere. Only confusion. The Lord must have an instrument to set against the failure and to open the heavenly way again. The great need of Christians today is to be recovered to the full heavenly thought of God."
"What I'm seeking to bring back into view, and what the Church of today seems to have lost sight of is the nature of that heavenly way."
"Speaking generally, people of our day are confusing means and methods, enthusiasm and zeal, with the exact object of the Lord. They are failing to recognize that God's purpose must be reached in God's way and by God's means. Whether or not you can believe and accept it, the Way and the Means are just as important as the Purpose. That is, you cannot reach God's end just anyhow, by any kind of method, by projecting your own ideas or programs or schemes to get to God's end. God has His own way and means of getting to His end."
"We totally miss God's way when we start to assume that we are supposed to work on God's objectives, rather than, in being totally committed to His will and walk in His way. And the reason we miss God is simply because our ways are not God's ways, nor His thoughts our thoughts. And so, if we know God wants to feed the five thousand, we will organize a committee to raise the funds and get the job done. If we know God wants to reach the nations with the Gospel, we will organize the crusade and raise the pledges to ge the job done. But if we know and understand that walking in His way is all He requires, then God does all the planning, and we are in a position where we can simply respond to what He says. And God is truly glorified. If we are totally committed to do His will, then He will show us His way, and His objective is gloriously realized."
"When Joshua saw the man with the sword drawn in his hand, he challenged him, "Art thou for us or for our adversaries?" When the answer reveled he was more than a man, Joshua quickly capitulated, bowed and worshipped, and asked for instruction, "What saith my lord unto his servant?" "Go and conquer the land! Go and take possession! Go and lead the people in!" No, not at all. But rather "Take your shoes off" You get your shoes off, Joshua, and the rest will follow. You destroy the earth touch and see what will happen. You will only have to walk around Jericho! No, that is not how men would do it. Think of the tremendous campaign that would have been organized to capture Jericho if left to men. How busy we are with that today. No, get your shoes off and see what happens."
"The principle of the heavenly way is the principle of the Holy Ghost's moving on. "Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is heavenly ground." You have no standing here, the earth has no place here, the world has no place here, men have no place here. From this point on, heaven takes over. Yes, even from the great instrument raised up to serve the Lord, heaven has taken over."
"The object of the Holy Spirit is not to do something, make something, set up something upon and linked to this earth, which has "shoes" on it. The Holy Spirit is committed to something that is absolutely heavenly and His whole object is to detach everything in a spiritual and inward way from this earth."
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1
