"Thy Light and Thy Truth" Index
"O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles." Psalms 43:3
John Wesley said, "Send out thy light and thy truth, that is, actually discover them. Truth or thy favour, the light of thy countenance, and the truth of thy promises made to me; or the true light, the illumination of thy spirit, and the direction of thy gracious providence, whereby I may be led in the right way, to thy holy hill."
Throughout the Bible there are wonderful stories, powerful teachings, urgent warnings, great promises, vital facts, interesting statistics and so much more. All of these have one common denominator, they are the pure Word of God and as such all are, "given by the inspiration of God, and are profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works." (II Timothy 3:16-17)
It is of the utmost importance that we retain as much of God's Word to memory as is possible, herein is the working of the Holy Spirit bringing back to our remembrance a pure word of God during our greatest need through some trial, testing or just an encouragement during our dry desert times. Remember, the Holy Spirit can only bring back to remembrance what we have previously put to memory, thus "bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." (John 14:26)
Below is a list of sound biblical messages and other material for you to study and memorize. Commitment to prayer and the study of God's Word is never a waste of time, rather a storing up of our treasures in heaven. (See Interest on the Widow's Mite)
"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."

Are We Sanctified? by J. C. Ryle
It is a question of the utmost importance to our souls. If the Bible be true, it is certain that unless we are "sanctified," we shall not be saved. There are three things which, according to the Bible, are absolutely necessary to the salvation of every man and woman in Christendom. These three are, justification, regeneration, and sanctification. He that lacks any one of these three things, will never find himself in heaven when he dies.
The Great Battle by J. C. Ryle
I know well it is a hard battle that you have to fight, and I want you to know it too. You must fight the good fight of faith, and endure hardships, if you would lay hold of eternal life; you must make up your mind to a daily struggle, if you would reach heaven. There may be short roads to heaven invented by man; but ancient Christianity, the good old way, is the way of the cross: the way of conflict. Sin, the world, and the devil must be actually mortified, resisted, and overcome.
Words from Brother Lawrence by Brother Lawrence
I walk before God simply, in faith, with humility and with love; and I apply myself diligently to do nothing and think nothing which may displease Him ... and this without any other view than purely for the love of Him, and because He deserves infinitely more.

THIS BOOK contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you and comfort to cheer you.
It is the traveller's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword and the Christian's charter. Here paradise is restored, heaven opened and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand object, our good is its design and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet.
Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure. It is given you in life, will be opened in the judgement, and will be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labour, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents. Anonymous

Thoughts on the Word of God * New Study *
My rule for Christian living is this: anything that dims my vision of Christ, or takes away my taste for Bible study, or cramps my prayer life, or makes Christian work difficult is wrong for me, and I must, as a Christian, turn away from it.
